Drag me to Hell Movie
By Michael Jodoin Loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman – ‘Gamer’), in an attempt to gain favor, and a promotion from her boss, turns down an impassioned plea for a loan extension by an old gypsy woman about to be evicted from her house. (First rule of thumb, never piss off a gypsy.) In retaliation the gypsy woman places a curse on Christine that sends a dark spirit after her to ‘drag her to hell’ as the title implies. Almost immediately supernatural occurrences overwhelm Christine. Christine’s boyfriend Professor Clayton Dalton (Justin Long – ‘Jeepers Creepers’) doesn’t believe in the supernatural, but he’s a stand by your woman man. Terrified by what’s happening to her, Christine turns to a seer for help. Eventually her fear turns to anger as she plots, with the help of the seer, a method of extracting her soul from the grips of this fiend from hell bent on taking her home with him. That’s about all you need to know…about the plot at least. “Drag me to Hell” marks Director Sam Raimi’s return to horror movies. Everyone remembers the “Evil Dead” trilogy. That was more fun than a barrel of eyeballs. Apparently Sam never forgot how to make a good horror movie…or how to use an eyeball. Sam Raimi is back and in full force with scene after vile, disgusting, and funny scene, just as he did with the Evil Dead. “Drag me to Hell” was co-written by Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan. Raimi’s last pure horror film (unless you count “Boogeyman” which I don’t) was “Army of Darkness” which coincidentally was also co-written by Sam and Ivan. Long time partner Rob Tapert also produced each of the aforementioned films. Raimi’s cinematic style is unmistakable and for this reviewer has been sorely missed. One need not see the credits to know that this is Raimi at his best. This movie takes off and never stops. Halfway through “Drag me to Hell” I found myself laughing and applauding, shouting “Sam’s back!” No one does over the top projectile vomiting, blood spraying from nostrils or eyeballs blinking from the most unpredictable places like Sam do. You absolutely owe it to yourself to see this one and when it comes out on DVD it’ll make a great addition to anyone’s collection. I know it will be in mine. Drag Me to Hell - Exclusive Clip |
